Posted on February 17, 2016 by Marc Clair Posted in Podcast, Technology 1 Comment

In today’s episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in the founder and President of LBRY (pronounced “Library”) Jeremy Kaufman! LBRY is a brand new way for people to share content with each other utilizing block chain technology, similar to how Bitcoin functions. Before we get into the nerdy details, Jeremy explains how he first became interested in political ideas – first through receiving some unsatisfactory answers to questions posed to his schoolteachers, and later through the writings of leftist antiwar writer

Preview: John McAfee on China, Russia and the Cyber Security Threat

Posted on October 31, 2015 by Marc Clair Posted in Election 2016, Podcast, Politics, Technology, War & Peace Leave a comment

I recently conducted a fascinating interview with the self-described “eccentric millionaire”, creator of McAfee Anti-Virus, and now Presidential candidate John McAfee. I can honestly say this was one of the most compelling interviews I have ever conducted in 154 episodes of the Lions of Liberty Podcast. In this preview clip, McAfee discusses the cyber security threat the United States is facing from China and Russia, and the cataclysmic effects on the U.S. economy that would incur with even a short-term

David Friedman Calls for Ride-Sharing Forty Years Prior to Lyft and Uber

Posted on July 13, 2015 by Marc Clair Posted in Crony Capitalism, Markets & Regulation, Technology 1 Comment

There is no doubt the concept of ride-sharing is revolutionizing transportation in the United States and the world. While the predictable and perhaps inevitable cronyism of the industry is already occurring, these companies certainly help to paint a more clear vision of how transportation can better be managed by non-coercive entities as opposed to the coercive monopolies which control much the world’s transportation, whether its through direct control of railroads and buses or simply through government control of roads. Recently our pal Jack Thompson, aka the Political Badger, conducted a fascinating interview with Cody Wilson, founder of Defense Distributed,  producer of 3-D printed, open source handguns. Cody’s story is truly fascinating, and I highly recommend checking out this great interview! From Political Badger: On this episode Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed tells us how two young guys from Little Rock, Arkansas conceived of an idea that just might rock the system.  It’s an idea rooted in a deep political philosophy

Posted on April 28, 2015 by John Odermatt Posted in Police State, Technology Leave a comment

Government agencies across the land may have found a way to ensure that vehicles traveling in carpool lanes are carrying the required amount of passengers. Until now, attempts to create an automated vehicle occupancy detection system have not reached the level of accuracy needed during testing to be effective. An agency in San Diego, California believes they have found an Automated Vehicle Passenger Detection system developed by Xerox that is effective. The Electronic Frontier Foundation reports on the new system

Political Badger Investigates Objectivism, Net Neutrality

Posted on March 11, 2015 by Marc Clair Posted in Philosophy of Liberty, Technology Leave a comment

It’s time to catch up with our friend Jack Thomson, aka Political Badger. He recently interviewed David Kelley of the Atlast Society on the subject of Objectivism. Via Political Badger: Our latest podcast was a fun one.  David Kelley is the founder and Chief Intellectual Officer of the Atlas Society, an organization committed to the promotion of Objectivism.  I am a big Ayn Rand fan and it was fascinating to learn more about her philosophy.  As you’ll hear, Dr. Kelley speaks eloquently

Morning Roar: How to Find Out if the NSA Spied On You

Posted on February 23, 2015 by John Odermatt Posted in Foreign Policy, Technology 1 Comment

Last week The Intercept broke the story that American and British spies, from the National Security Agency (NSA) and Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), hacked into the internal computer network of Gemalto, the largest manufacturer of SIM cards in the world. The intelligence agencies stole encryption keys used to protect cellphone communications around the world. This information was provided to The Intercept by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The heist of these encryption keys gives intelligence agencies the ability to monitor mobile

Government War On Encryption

Posted on January 13, 2015 by John Odermatt Posted in Current Events, Police State, Technology 1 Comment

In Great Britain on Monday, Prime Minister David Cameron threatened to ban popular messaging services like Snapchat and WhatsApp if Britain’s intelligence services were not given access to the communications. It comes as no surprise that European politicians are using the recent terrorist attacks in France as a justification for demanding greater access to information from Internet companies. The New York Times reports: Mr. Cameron, who has started to campaign ahead of a national election in Britain in May, said

Morning Roar: Is 2014 The Best Year Ever?, Rand Paul Wants Militarized Police Defunded, Kim Dotcom Takes Aim At Skype

Posted on December 30, 2014 by John Odermatt Posted in Current Events, Philosophy of Liberty, Rand Paul, Technology Leave a comment

It feels like ages since I’ve written an edition of The Morning Roar. I’ve had a wonderful few days celebrating Christmas with family and friends. The last couple days must have had a few extra minutes tucked in them. Maybe the many delicious Christmas ales I’ve enjoyed helped to slow down the progression of time the last couple days. Enough rambling, let’s get to the Roar! 2014 Sure Seemed Like a Terrible Year, But Was It Really That Bad? I
