Joe Paterno and Ron Paul are both legends who gained influence by challenging the status quo. Paterno challenged his student athletes to be successful on the football field, in the classroom, and most importantly in life. Ron Paul has challenged the special interests in Washington, and has proven that it’s possible to be a member of congress for 20 years and never vote to raise taxes, never vote for an unbalanced budgeted, and never vote against the constitution. Both are humble, small
While I planned to take most of my morning prepping for a 2 hour block of live internet radio today, this little nugget of news was just too ridiculous to pass up. In another instance of increasingly more absurd security theater, the TSA is going to be making their presence felt (no pun intended) at the Super Bowl. If it wasn’t enough that will they be running security and subjecting fans to full-body patdowns along with the presence of the
Have no fear, the Department of Homeland Security is sifting through thousands of international tweets in the name of National Security. It became apparent a few days ago that DHS has decided to strategically alter their screening procedures. Instead of investigating and probing actual threats to our National security, DHS has intensified their focus on stopping foreigners who are hell bent on coming to the USA with the outrageous goal of…..partying and having a good time. The event that tipped us off to
Despite the inordinate amount of Micks this country has in it (yours truly being one of them), fortunately we are still not Ireland, which is going to pass its own version of SOPA without even giving its members of parliament time to don their powdered wigs. Unlike Irish Spring, this stinks. Ireland’s populace is powerless to lobby said members to shout this bill down. Why? This odious legislation is being lubed up and jammed through without a peep because it’s
The militarization of the Police State continues on to new levels this week as the U.S. military begins joint excercises along with the LAPD in Los Angeles this week. According to local CBS news coverage, “The exercises are designed to ensure the military’s ability to operate in urban environments, prepare forces for upcoming overseas deployments, and meet mandatory training certification requirements, police said.” I think the main concern here should be the phrase “operate in urban environments”. With the recent passage of the
The Supreme Court has ruled that the government violated the Constitution when FBI agents attached a GPS tracking device to a suspect’s car and monitored his movements for over a month without a warrant. So at least on this issue, the Constitution held up. You can read the details of the full story here (I’m not going to recap the whole thing), but in a nutshell, this invasion of privacy was in violation of the 4th Amendment. Justice Antonin Scalia,
This just in: Senator Rand Paul, who in his short time in the Senate has valiantly fought against various government tyrannies such as the Patriot Act, Section 1031 of the NDAA, as well as the abuses of the TSA, has been detained by one of the very agencies he has sought to curtail. Politico has confirmed that Senator Paul was detained by the TSA in Nashville after refusing a full-body patdown. This was after an “anamoly” was found on the Senator’s
” First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”. Most people attribute the above quote to Mahatma Gandhi, though it is disputed and there is no documentation of whether he actually said it or not. And yes, I only mentioned that so I don’t get spam bombed by the Blog Accuracy Nerd Police with comments about how I’m selling lies to the world and most likely burning kittens in my free time.
It is exciting to see the push back to SOPA and PIPA that is being communicated today via various forms of protest on the internet. We would blackout our website here at Lions of Liberty, but then where would you find comparisons between SOPA, PIPA, and NDAA Section 1021? Lions of Liberty provided our insights into SOPA and PIPA earlier today and twice last fall, here and here. In addition, to these two liberty eroding bills there was a third signed weeks ago that makes SOPA and PIPA
Lions of Liberty is standing in unison with many other online content hubs to protest SOPA or the “Stop Online Piracy Act,” and PIPA “Protect IP Act.” A detailed description of these First Amendment-infringing acts can be found at Wikipedia, which is also protesting with a blackout of content for 24 hours, save for the information on SOPA and PIPA. In brief, these two acts were written to protect US-generated intellectual property in all forms (Film, TV, Music, Writing, etc).
