Welcome to our first installment of Friday Police State Follies. Every Friday we will report on a strange event from the past week involving the boys in blue. The topic could be comical some weeks and other times we may discuss more serious violations of our liberties at the hands of the fuzz.
Common stereotypes that surround life in the south convey a leisurely pace to life in a very relaxed and welcoming environment. Apparently, Scott Biumi, a sergeant with the Dekalb County police department takes exception to this endearing characteristic of southern society. He took matters into his own hands when a drive-thru line was not moving quickly enough to meet his expectations.
Last week, in a fit of rage reminiscent of antics in the movie Super Troopers, a plain clothes dressed sergeant Biumi assaulted the driver of the car ahead of him in the McDonalds drive-thru line. WSBTV has the story and the video below:
A DeKalb County police detective is accused of pointing his service weapon at others in a McDonald’s drive-thru line.
The alleged incident happened at 10:30 p.m. April 9 at a McDonald’s on Old Atlanta Road. The sergeant, identified as Scott Biumi, a 48-year-old resident of Cumming, was arrested in Forsyth County.
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Major Rick Doyle told Channel 2’s Jeff Dore that the detective became impatient with other men in the line, left his car and pointed his weapon. Doyle said the sergeant confronted the men using expletives. Forsyth County Sheriff’s Duane Piper said Biumi lunged his head, gun and shoulders into a pickup truck to threaten the driver. Doyle said the incident was captured on security cameras.
This situation is only comical to reflect upon because nobody was hurt. This article would be written in a much more somber tone if any citizen(s) were harmed by this out of control police officer. If I was a betting man, I would wager that sergeant Biumi was placed on paid administrative leave while the mess he created is “cleaned up”. In contrast, if we had private police protection, as described by our editor-in-chief Marc in his Intro To Ancap: Private Defense Pt 1. – Police Protection, then an event such as this would certainly squash any demand for sergeant Biumi’s services and he would be forced to find employment in a different industry.
Just for fun, because it is Friday, please enjoy the clip from the movie Super Troopers below. There was a time in college when I watched this movie 5 days in a row.
