Politico released a statement today through Marketwatch stating that a deal had been reached with Congress that would allow them to be exempt from many provisions in Obamacare. You know, those provisions that the majority of Americans were against, and yet still have to deal with as this liberty-infringing behemoth rolls out.
Under the law, popularly referred to as Obamacare, lawmakers and their aides were required to source health insurance “created” by the law or offered through one of its exchanges, and without the subsidies they currently enjoy, the members of Congress would have faced thousands of dollars in additional premium payments each year, the report said. However, the Office of Personnel Management now plans to rule that the government can continue to make a contribution to the health-care premiums of the lawmakers and their staff, it said, citing unnamed congressional sources and a White House official.
As the major provisions of Obamacare take hold in the coming years, we will see many citizens paying more for their own healthcare (drastically in the case of young, healthy people), while may of those same citizens see their hours cut due to Obamacare mandates on businesses. And now, as a bonus slap in the face, the money being taken from these increasingly smaller paychecks will continue to subsidize the power-elite in Congress, along with their aides. There is no aspect of this that is right, just, or fair to the American people.
Unlike Ron Paul, who refused to partake in the Congressional health plan, those currently in Congress are largely greedy, self-centered individuals who are looking to maintain their own wealth and power base. Abraham Lincoln (don’t get us started) famously stated in the Gettysburg Address that, “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” What he left out was an unspoken “in power” after every iteration of “people.”
For Congress to seek this deal at the expense of the American people (literally) is an overt signal that they consider themselves elite and above the average citizen that they are representing. “Do as I say, don’t do as I do,” seems to be the unspoken moniker of politicians and this has been no different. It’s a pathetic display.
At least the head of the IRS still has to abide by the same rules that the rest of us do when this terrible, bloated, and already dysfunctional legislation comes into effect – even though he doesn’t want any part of it.
