It’s been a while since I posted a BILL WATCH! so here goes.
GOP members of the House, as well as some principled Democrats have put forth bills allowing citizens to keep their current healthcare plans instead of having them stripped and replaced by far more expansive and expensive plans.
The Keep Your Health Plan Act, H.R. 3350, was introduced last week by House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and more than two dozen Republicans. As of Wednesday, co-sponsorship had grown to 88 members.
Upton’s bill authorizes insurance companies to keep offering plans that they have said need to be canceled because of ObamaCare’s new insurance standards. Since early October, companies have sent out millions of notices to enrollees saying their plans will be scrapped and, in many cases, replaced by more expensive plans.
The actual text of the bill is as follows:
(a) In General.–Notwithstanding any provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (including any amendment made by such Act or by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010), a health insurance issuer that has in effect health insurance coverage in the individual market as of January 1, 2013, may continue after such date to offer such coverage for sale during 2014 in such market outside of an Exchange established under section 1311 or 1321 of such Act (42 U.S.C. 18031, 18041).
(b) Treatment as Grandfathered Health Plan in Satisfaction of Minimum Essential Coverage.–Health insurance coverage described in subsection (a) shall be treated as a grandfathered health plan for purposes of the amendment made by section 1501(b) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
This is something that makes absolute and total sense, despite Obama and his cronies stating on the record that keeping ones plan was never promised or assured.
Two separate tweeters — Reid Epstein at Politico and Mark Knoller at CBS News — are reporting that President Obama, at a rally of the Organizing For Action faithful this evening, told his audience that “What we said was you can keep it (your health plan) if it hasn’t changed since the law passed”
Of course, we all know that’s a blatant lie, which has been well documented here and many other places. Remember way back when, during a session of Congress, when a GOP Congressman stood up and yelled at Obama that he was a “liar?” Oh, the ruckus and furor it caused. That man was some sort of magical Nostradamus, because his claim has since proven to be right time and time again.
Obama will likely veto this should it continue to progress, but I think it will pass in the long run, and politically, Obama should bite the bullet on this issue. I doubt he will, however, as he has shown zero remorse for any action, nor any ability to admit his own folly or wrongdoing. Obama is obsessed with his own ego, his own legacy and nothing more. The concerns of everyday Americans is far below his level of notice, or care. The abomination against liberty known as Obamacare rolls on.
