The Jebster is taking a page out of Rand Paul’s (lately anyway), putting his foot in his mouth and getting himself involved in a conversation and on a topic that isn’t likely to win him friends outside a very tight knit group of warhawks and neocons.
Breitbart.com snagged a snippet of an interview from the Hugh Hewitt show where Jeb Bush expressed just how “nervous” he was about the NSA. Not about their unconstitutional domestic spying, or about the rights of Americans being violated. No, what makes Jeb nervous is that Obama, who he admits has actually enhanced the spying capabilities of the NSA, hasn’t defended that organization enough.
Bush said that lone wolf terrorism “is a serious threat in a world where we’re so connected with the rest of the world. We have people moving in and people moving out. People get their information now, not everybody gets to listen to your show to get all their information. People get their information in different ways. They get disaffected, disillusioned, preyed upon, and so yeah, I think that this is an ongoing threat, and I hope that our counterintelligence capabilities are always vigilant. I’ve always been nervous about the attacks on the NSA, and somehow that we’re losing our freedoms by keeping the homeland safe. I think we need to be really vigilant about that.”
He added, “I think the President has to lead, has to explain to people. He’s actually enhanced the intelligence capabilities, in many ways, because technology has gotten better. But he never defends it. He never explains it. He never tries to persuade people that their civil liberties are being protected by the systems we have in place. If people knew that, I don’t think there’d be any doubt that they would want to have the ability to identify people from the outside that may be trying to coordinate with some people in the inside.”
First off: what? Did that first paragraph make any sense whatsoever? Lone wolf terrorism is a big threat now because people are too connected? People are moving around and get their information in different ways and that means they are preyed upon? It’s like Jeb’s people sent 5 carrier pigeons into his brain, all carrying different messages, and they all crashed into each other in an explosion of feathers and bird feces, resulting in that statement.
Jeb thinks that all of us concerned over the rights that we have most distinctly lost through the NSA’s zealotry (zealotry that has foiled nothing I remind you, as admitted by the NSA’s director) is the problem! That is what makes him nervous! It’s so ridiculous that it’s completely laughable.
If Obama went out on a limb to defend the NSA, in the wake of the Snowden documents, after our allies made clear their disgust, and after the admitted failures, and actually said that our civil liberties were being protected by the systems in place, he would be even more pilloried than he already is. Does Jeb even know what civil liberties are? Because there is absolutely no way it can be argued that the NSA of all agencies is in any way is protecting them. We can all read the evidence to the contrary, as it’s already been leaked.
I hope Jeb makes this the centerpiece of his campaign platform. JEB BUSH 2016: THE NSA IS ACTUALLY PROTECTING YOUR CIVIL LIBERTIES AND ALSO FROM LONE WOLF TERRORISTS WHO GET INFORMATION FROM PLACES THAT AREN’T THE HUGH HEWITT SHOW AND MOVE AROUND SOMETIMES.
Nailed it. And no, this isn’t an April fool’s joke.
– Citizen protests over immigration checkpoints well within US borders growing, sometimes with violent results.
– U.S. Reps, other high level government workers to start using NSA-proof smartphones from Silent Circle. I for one hope I can buy one on Amazon Prime.
– Facebook accused of tracking users web browsing through illegal cookies even after accounts are deleted.
