In this week’s flagship Lions of Liberty podcast, Marc is joined by Ryan McMaken of the Mises Institute to discuss his recent article “Government Shutdown Shows Why We Need to Decentralize National Parks.”
After Marc and Ryan catch up and vent about the nature of social media commentary, they dig into the issue of national parks in the context of the current government shutdown. Ryan breaks down the problems with a federal monopoly over the National Parks and Forests, and why local and private control would prevent the destruction and neglect occurring during the government shutdown. They look at how private businesses and communities are incentivized to care for and protect the land, and why it is far less likely the land will be overtaken by “greedy capitalists” when they are no longer under the control of the Federal government.
