Corporate Mouthpiece for the State v. Champion of Liberty
Recently MSNBC personality Ed Schultz had a segment called "Psycho Talk" where he bashed Dr. Ron Paul, labeling him "psycho" at the mere suggestion of eliminating certain unconstitutional government departments such as the Department of Agriculture and Department of Education. I've noticed that people tend to resort to "attack" words like "crazy" and "psycho" when they are not confident in making an intellectual argument on their own. Therefore, they start off with that smear word right away, so before anyone gets their say the audience has already been pre-conditioned that what they are about to hear is indeed 'psycho'. Is it psychotic to suggest that the government follow its' own laws? Ed Schultz seems to think so. He also seems to think the principles laid out in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights only came about because it took 3 weeks to get from Boston to Philly. Or something like that. But in reality the Constitution is a contract between the government and its' citizens. If someone like Ed Schultz doesn't care about breaking one part of the contract - such as by creating large bureacratic departments which are in no way authorized - then where does it stop ? If we can make an exception there, why not make an exception for Freedom of Speech? Or detaining people indefinitely without trial? Or launching wars without Congressional authorization?Schultz seems to buy into the Nirvana Fallacy when it comes to government, presuming that federally run bureacracies are the only way to achieve things such as education and safe food. The reality is that the Department of Agriculture is largely a vehicle for subsidizing large corporate farms. Meanwhile, the Department of Education didn't even begin operating until 1980, and since then by any standard public education has gotten drastically worse while costing signifigantly more.Mr. Schultz also seemingly has no interest in discussing the fact that Dr. Paul wants to drastically cut spending from overseas militarism and doesn't favor cutting any domestic programs until this is done. Nor does he care to discuss any statistics or ideas which may suggest that things like food safety and education could possibly be handled in any way other than by a large federal bureacracy. Would the world suddenly collapse if we didn't have these Departments? According to Ed Schultz, anyone who thinks otherwise is "psycho".It was nice to see the usually calm and genial Dr. Paul get a little feisty here. Biased interviews are one thing, but Schultz's only goal here was to put words into Dr. Paul's mouth without giving him a chance to explain anything. People like Ed Schultz are paid a lot of money to craft our opinions. Luckily, it seems that the Mainstream Media is dying and people are more often than ever turning to alternative sources for opinions and information (like here at the Lions of Liberty Blog! Cheap plug!).Oh well, at least he might want to have Dr. Paul back to talk about that pesky "4th Amendment stuff".Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon!
