TSA Body Scanners: Same Intrusion On Privacy, But Now With Zero Safety Benefit!
Just watched a fascinating video by an engineer named Jonathan Corbett, who took metal cases through the TSA's incredibly expensive, potentially cancer-causing peep-o-matic body scanners with no problems whatsoever. He created the video (below) explaining how he did the deed, which in a nutshell revolves around the color display that the machines use. Basically, foreign objects appear as dark black/blue images against the white image of the human body in the scanner. However, because the background is pitch black around the body image, any object that isn't directly against or in front of the body will be invisible. Corbett wore a loose fitting shirt with a special pocket stitched into the side that took the smuggled object away from his body, rendering it invisible and he walked right through. In a traditional metal detector, he'd have been caught.Corbett videotaped himself going through both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and also Cleveland airport. Thank heavens we've spent so much money on these worthless invasions of privacy.
