Cops Get A Lecture On Liberty
Happy Monday, liberty lovers (or even tyranny lovers who just happened upon our site - we welcome you too!). After a couple weeks of analyzing the emptiness of the rhetoric at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, how about a breathe of raw, fresh liberty air?Check out this video of a couple young gentlemen in Rhode Island standing up for themselves and their rights when stopped for questioning by some local police. It's quite interesting to see how police start to react when confronted with some people who are educated on the law and the Constitution. Most people generally acquiesce to the requests of police officers, but it's important to understand your legal rights and to feel confident in expressing them. When the main speaker starts to quote the 2nd and 4th Amendment, it eventually has a "these are not the droids you're looking for" effect on the cops. These two men clearly understand the law more than the police even do, and it's amazing how they are able to transform the conversation from an interrogation by the police into a lecture on liberty to their would be interrogators.WARNING: The video does contain some foul language. What's most interesting to me is how unintimidated they are by the police. Despite some cursing and a rough exterior, these guys know their rights and aren't afraid to express their feelings to the police. We can learn from this.Read the Constitution. Know your rights. And don't be afraid to stand up for them. Police may not have much regard for your rights, but they do have high regard for keeping their jobs. And many police may become intimidated themselves when they encounter someone who actually does understand the law better than they do. When they know they have an educated person and know they are being filmed, the police are likely to be much more cautious in how they deal with you.Of course, there's always the risk the police will treat you like Kelly Thomas , who one of the young men referenced. But we certainly shouldn't live in a state of fear from violence from those whose job is to collect protect and serve. An interesting point of note is how one of the officers mentions that "they won't even have pensions in five years". Even the cops realize we are headed for rough economic times ahead.
