Will Illegals Actually LOSE Rights By Becoming Citizens?
I just was reading over the new immigration bill that was passed by a Judiciary Bipartisan Panel (though looks doomed in its current form) and a thought popped into my head...namely that by becoming legalized citizens, illegal immigrants will actually lose some rights. Granted, for them it's probably still best to avoid deportation, but to play Devil's advocate, let's see if we can name a few rights that would be stripped or disadvantages to becoming legalized.
- Sovereignty over one's own body, e.g. Healthcare and whether or not to pay for insurance. With Obamacare's Constitution-violating mandate to purchase healthcare looming for all of us citizens, illegal immigrants are able to still use free clinics when needed and avoid the health tax/penalty and potential jailtime facing those who refuse to purchase insurance.
- Right to Privacy/4th Amendment - Government tracking of passports via RFID chip and the always looming National/REAL ID Card, which would be required in lieu of a driver's license and based on a biometric system that could include a retina scan component. These ID cards would be trackable and, in theory, be required identification for any purchases.
- Legalized immigrants would be forced to pay wage taxes and social security. They would also have to pay some theoretical portion of back taxes should the bill be ratified in its current form. While it's debatable that a real number could be concocted for back taxes owed, is could be in the tens of thousands for those who have lived in America for quite a while.
