Police Looking To Add Homeowners' Security Cameras To Surveillance Net

The presumptive nature of the State - not only will it tax/steal away half your income, but it also wants to borrow your stuff. And, like a horrible neighbor, once the State borrows something, you never get it back.A City Councilman in San Jose named San Liccardo has proposed that citizens in the city donate their private home security cameras to the watchful eyes of the Police Department in order to expand the surveillance network (and create one of the most ridiculous surveillance states I have ever heard of) and fight crime. The San Jose Mercury News has the greater story breakdown, but in a nutshell, citizens register their home security cameras with the local police, who then have unfettered access to the personal feeds of those people. Indoor, outdoor, etc.Naturally, this is claimed to be something that would only be accessed if there was a problem or incident, but as we have seen time and time again (Hello NSA, TSA and countless other programs we don't even know about yet!) this is a failed proposition based in fairy tale lore rather than reality. Once access is given, it will undoubtedly be abused. Hanni Fakhoury of the Electronic Frontier Foundation echoes my thoughts.

"To me the really interesting and troublesome part of it is the way we are starting to privatize government surveillance -- to enlist private citizens in a way that is kind of unprecedented and could be potentially really dangerous," said Hanni Fakhoury, a staff attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a San Francisco-based nonprofit. "Once you give the police unfettered access 24/7, you're relying on them to exercise their restraint."

And we know how good police are at exercising restraint! This is truly one of the worst ideas I have ever seen in my life, and I would sincerely hope that the people of San Jose aren't blind enough to buy into inviting Big Brother into their homes.Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon!
