"Drones For Liberty": Fighting Back Against Big Brother
The ongoing debate over the use of drones abroad by the government and domestically by state agencies as well as local law enforcement has set the stage for the next evolution in the battle for our 4th Amendment rights. There have already been various bills proposed by lawmakers in Washington, which could have some negligible impact, however one group of liberty-minded investors are looking skyward to make a more palpable effort to protect our freedoms."Drones For Liberty" was founded by George Greyson along with several other investors. George's background is in aviation and aeronautical engineering, having spent several years working with one of the top aerial drone manufacturers in the industry. However, as the industry evolved, Greyson found himself at odds with what he saw as a clear attack on the liberties of Americans.
"What was going on and what these drones were being designed to achieve, specifically towards our own citizens, I found to be despicable," said Greyson in an interview. "I recall asking one of our government clients who the targets would be, thinking that our products would typically be utilized abroad, and was told point-blank that they would be monitoring public spaces and people without their knowledge here in the U.S. That's when I knew I had to leave and I had to do something."
Drones For Liberty launched in early 2013. The company designs counter drones that will target and interfere with government or law-enforcement drones that happen to be patrolling a designated area. George Greyson admitted that they are a good few months out from product launch, but that he feels fully confident that his drones won't have too much trouble being a menace to government spooks.
"Once you know how the drones work, its easy to counter them in the air. There are various ways to go about it, from signal interference to direct physical attacks to disable and bring a drone down."
When asked about the ramifications of attacking government drones, Greyson was dismissive, agreeing with some earlier sentiments expressed when a Colorado town proposed legalization of drone hunting.
"There are potential fines or legal actions from the FAA, but they also have to prove exactly how their drone was disabled, which is incredibly difficult to do. A mid-air collision could have occurred with a bird, falling debris, gunfire from below, or any number of other causes. We've got a very good legal team in place, and we're not worried. Additionally, clients opting to use our service will not have their names released to the government or anyone else. The actions taken on behalf of a client will be the responsibility of Drones for Liberty, and we'll deal with the consequences. No one ever said being free and staying that way was easy."
