Hong Kong's Anti-Poverty Campaign Head Says People Must Get Ahead Without Government Aid

Fill those lungs with a breath of fresh air...ironically from Hong Kong, where the air typically isn't so breathable.Leonie Ki Man-fung was recently named to head Hong Hong's Anti-Poverty campaign, dubbed "Bless Hong Kong," which aims to "help the underprivileged, foster the spirit of giving and boost the social mobility of young people."While Leonie Ki 's background in advertising and real estate development makes her a good fit for the position, her attitude towards government handouts raises some eyebrows.

An advertising-industry veteran who rose to become an executive director of property giant New World Development, Ki has always believed the people of Hong Kong - a city she describes as a "blessed land" - must achieve prosperity by their own hard work, rather than by the government's help."When we were young, we never waited for the government to do anything. We did it ourselves. What's gone wrong nowadays is that there are people who only wait for the government to rescue them."

As Zero Hedge points out, this type of talk in the US would likely warrant a drone strike, and it's fascinating to see this woman speaking out in what could very easily be seen as anti-communist language. Of course, she later detailed how she was antipathetic towards the Communist Party in her youth, but has since come around to embrace it, especially with the economic emergence of the mainland. Have to pay lip service to the ruling party here and there...China's got a litany of offenses against libertarian thinking (and some basic human rights violations), but at least on this one point, there's a voice of reason.Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon!
