The Morning Roar: Rep. Massie Protects Right to Bear Arms In D.C., and Putin's Response to U.S. Sanctions Over Cuban Listening Post
Shorter than usual, but just as potent...it's your Thursday Morning Roar!Massie Amendment H.R. 5016 Upholds Right to Bear Arms in D.C. Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie has drawn our interest and accolades recently for his insistence that the government declassify 9/11 documents that (in Massie's words) completely made him rethink the way he looked at what occurred and why. But he's also put an amendment on the table in Washington to protect the right of the residents of the District of Columbia (which yes, TSA, does in fact exist) to bear arms. From his note to fellow representatives voting on the amendment:
My amendment to H.R. 5016 would block the District of Columbia from using taxpayer dollars to prevent law-abiding citizens from possessing, using, selling, or transporting firearms. Despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller that struck down the DC handgun ban, it is still difficult for DC residents to exercise their God-given right to bear arms. This is because government authorities in the District continue to establish hurdles and barriers to gun ownership that include re-registration requirements, fees, and submission to invasive fingerprinting and photographing.
Long story short, this one came out to be a victory for gun rights and liberty, as the amendment passed 241-181.Putin Responds To Obama Sanctions Over Listening Station in Cuba Not that relations between the US and Russia are particularly friendly at any given time, but with the recent news of Russia's intent to reopen a Havana listening post to spy on the US, things have gotten particularly icy. The leveraging of sanctions (economic warfare) against the former Soviet nation hasn't exactly gone over well, and Putin spoke out quite clearly today in response.
But as for sanctions, they usually have a boomerang effect, and without a doubt will force US-Russian relations into a corner,” he elaborated. “This is a serious blow to our relationship. And it undermines the long term security interests of the US State and its people.”Putin said that it is “regrettable” that “our partners” have chosen to impose new sanctions, but Russia“will not close doors to negotiations.”“We're open to finding ways out of this situation,” Putin said. “I really hope that common sense and the willingness to resolve all issues through peaceful diplomatic means will prevail.”“The measures taken by the US administration towards Russia, in my view, contradict the national interests of the United States,” Putin said. “This means that, for example, large companies wanting to work in Russia after facing certain restrictions will lose their competitiveness compared with other global energy companies.”
Paints a nice rosy picture for the future, doesn't it?When will our government learn that sanctions never solve anything and only serve to harm individuals on both sides, while pushing us further towards war?Fan the flames, Obama!Read The Morning Roar every weekday Monday-Friday!The Lions of Liberty are on Twitter, Facebook & Google+Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon!
