Felony Friday: Former Police Officer Found Guilty of Sexually Assaulting 13 Women

Disgraced former Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Ken Holtzclaw will likely be spending the rest of his life in prison for raping and sexually assaulting thirteen women while on duty. Holtzclaw was found guilty on 18 of 36 counts, including four counts of rape in the first degree. Sentencing is set for January, but the sentences lined up add up to 263 years. It is likely that’ll he’ll be spending the rest of his life in prison.Dedicated readers of Felony Friday may remember when I first reported on this story in August of 2014. Holtzclaw would find his victims by stopping women and threatening them with arrest if they did not allow for him to sexually assault them. Some of the officer’s assaults occurred at the location of the traffic stops, and other times Holtzclaw would transport the victims to remote locations before assaulting them.Apparently, Holtzclaw did not take his verdict well in the court room.Business Insider reports on Holtzclaw’s reaction to the verdict:

The jury's verdict was delivered on Holtzclaw's 29th birthday. Holtzclaw was visibly distraught, sobbing uncontrollably and swaying from side to side as Judge Timothy Henderson read out the jury's verdict.Holtzclaw was led out in handcuffs shortly after by members of the sheriff's department.

It is impossible for me to fully understand the horror that Holtzclaw brought into these women’s’ lives. Oklahoma City can rest a bit easier knowing that this criminal, who used his badge as a tool to sexually assault women, will be behind bars for a very long time.Though this is sadly not always the case, thankfully this follow-up article ended with the bad guy serving justice.

*Felony Friday Update:

I do my best to follow-up on previously reported stories and update the outcome when possible, but with the current format of Felony Friday, there just isn't enough space to talk about current atrocities and follow-up on prior stories. This is one of the reasons why we have decided to change how we deliver your Felony Friday news each and every week. Starting in January of 2016 the Felony Friday column will be transitioning to the Felony Friday Podcast! That's right ladies and gentlemen, the Lions of Liberty Podcast has it's very first spinoff!
