Rand Pauluses and Minuses - Is Rand's Campaign on the "War Path?"

In the wake of the latest GOP debate, (listen to our reaction show!), Rand's polling numbers haven't experienced a major increase. Paul has stated his dedication to staying in the race at least through the Iowa caucus and expects his ground game and student support to elicit a strong showing there. In the meantime it's highly questionable if he'll be included in the next GOP debate. In response to rumblings over the solvency of his campaign, 'ol #Randypants has made some waves this past week, attacking the front runners and taking a bold stance in defense of gun rights.Rand's "War Path"NBC has summed up Rand's latest volley of attacks against the front running gaggle of GOP candidates by claiming he is on the "war path," which is somewhat ironic as he's the least war-hungry of the Republican candidates. There is nothing to be gained from keeping quiet at this stage in the game, especially with other candidates laying claim to issues Rand has owned for years.Paul laid out the litany of problems with Trump, Christie and Rubio on "State of the Union" on CNN, and also took some shots at sometimes-ally Ted Cruz (who he also launched an attack ad against).

Of Cruz, Paul charged that "on several things, he wants to have it both ways ... depending on which audience he's talking to," pointing to Cruz's shift on legalization for undocumented immigrants, his flip-flop on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal from for it to against it and his vote for the Patriot Act after campaigning against it.

Rand could have also pointed out Cruz touting the "USA Freedom Act," which is PATRIOT Act Lite, but with some even worse issues, like never-expiring spying provisions that still violate the rights of Americans.Stay on the "war path," Rand. Don't go quietly into that good night.- PAULUSNobody Read the Omnibus Spending Bill I won't go into too much detail here. The spending bill passed, and included all sorts of horrible things that were shoehorned in by unscrupulous pieces of garbage masquerading as advocates and protectors of the people (including the nightmarish CISA). Rand voted against it. For that alone he gets a positive review. But in brief, Rand took umbrage most of all with the fact that nobody reads these things. From the Hill:
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he voted against the $1.1 trillion government spending bill that passed Congress last week because nobody had a chance to read the behemoth legislation.“It was over a trillion dollars, it was all lumped together, 2,242 pages. Nobody read it, so, frankly, my biggest complaint is that I have no idea what kind of things they stuck in the bill,” Paul told host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on New York’s AM 970.

No one else does either, Rand. It's absurd, it's sad and it's pathetic. Someone needs to pass legislation limiting the length of bills and the amount of sub-content, earmarks, additional legislation and anything else that can be included. Wouldn't that be a novel concept? That way no bills are longer than War and Peace and must be weighed and voted upon based on individual merit.Rand, get it done.- PAULUSRand proposes bill to halt any Executive authority on guns until Congress approves itAs someone who hates unconstitutional executive actions or really any initiative undertaken by the President that doesn't go through Congress for approval, I am tickled pink by Rand's latest bill, which seeks to stymie any and all executive actions that would impact gun rights.

The Kentucky Republican, who is running for president, has introduced legislation that would decree any executive action on gun control that either infringes upon congressional authority or potentially violates the Second Amendment as "advisory only" until legislation that supported the action is passed by Congress.

“In the United States, we do not have a king, but we do have a Constitution. We also have the Second Amendment, and I will fight tooth and nail to protect it,” Paul said in a statement on Monday. The legislation is currently being fast-tracked through the Senate. It's expected to be placed on the Senate calendar next month once lawmakers return to Washington from their recess. No vote has currently been scheduled.

The legislation would also allow for any state official, member of Congress or person affected by an executive action on gun control to launch a civil lawsuit.

That last bit is also quite clever. Scientology got its religious exemption based upon a never ending stream of lawsuits, and the number of civil cases that the government would have to face in the aftermath of an Obama-led jihad against gun rights would be innumerable.
