Shhh....Congress Has a Secret...and it's Torture!
We've provided no shortage of coverage on this blog of the increasing erosion of our rights as citizens, with the recent passage of the NDAA allowing for indefinite detention of anyone, American citizen or otherwise, who is simply suspected of being a terrorist, or of providing "material support" - a dangerously vague term - for terrorist groups. I need to emphasize again, this applies to people who are suspected - not charged, not known, and certainly not convicted (one would need some sort of trial or legal process for that), but suspected of being involved with terrorist groups. Considering that Homeland Security considers anyone with a Ron Paul bumper sticker a terrorist, (um...what about a liberty blog?) this is certainly a frightening implication.Following Nancy Pelosi's mantra of finding out what's in a bill after passing it, more and more is coming out on this bill after it's passage. It appears that this bill also includes provisions for secret "interrogation techniques" (Read: Torture) to be used on suspected terrorists. I'll say it again: Suspected terrorists. There is no way to say who gets to decide who is a suspect, and who these techniques would apply to. Of course, this information would only help the terrorists, as we are so often told.Please take a few minutes to watch various members of the U.S. Senate discuss this in the video below. Of particular note is the psychopathic glee warmongering Senator Joe Lieberman seems to take with the idea of these terror suspects being "terrified about what's going to happen to them in American custody."We welcome thoughts from our readers.
