Global Warming Data: Zero Warming For Past 16 Years

The Daily Mail uncovered a quietly released study on the latest global temperature trends, which was compiled by The Met Office in the UK, and shows the latest aggregate temperatures for the past 16 years. The shocking thing about the data? There has been zero global warming. A quick recap of the article's main points on the data:

...The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures. This means that the ‘plateau’ or ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years....The regular data collected on global temperature is called Hadcrut 4, as it is jointly issued by the Met Office’s Hadley Centre and Prof Jones’s Climatic Research Unit....Since 1880, when reliable temperature records began to be kept across most of the globe, the world has warmed by about 0.75 degrees Celsius. From the start of 1997 until August 2012, however, figures released last week show the answer is zero: the trend, derived from the aggregate data collected from more than 3,000 worldwide measuring points, has been flat.

Naturally this raises a lot of concerns, as the global push for economy-killing cuts to carbon emissions, potential global taxation and New World Order style GPS tracking systems instituted to track and tax CO2 emissions are both massive concerns to liberty-minded folk. And all of this is snowballing without any data to actually back up that the previous warming was more than simply a cyclic trend. These concerns, of course, are on top of the immediate issues of government subsidies and mandates (like Ethanol) that go to green businesses, which result in higher product costs for everyone.Libertarians have various views on the topic of what to do about man-made global warming. The standard opinion (and one espoused by Ron Paul) is that private property laws should be able to handle the issue of environmental protection. If something or someone is destroying your personal property,  whether it's by intent or result of contaminants, they are liable to be sued. As companies take financial hits, the market will regulate itself resulting in improved environmental conditions. The same applies for "green" business. As Ron Paul stated in a 2008 interview with the New York Times:

We should start by ending subsidies for oil companies. And we should never, ever go to war to protect our perceived oil interests. If oil were allowed to rise to its natural price, there would be tremendous market incentives to find alternate sources of energy. At the same time, I can’t support government “investment” in alternative sources either, for this is not investment at all.

The main argument against this was that "global warming" had already pushed too far and we had to take immediate, drastic steps to curb it or risk our world ending catastrophically by virtue of storms, floods, rising sea levels, etc. Were this true, our libertarian model may have worked too slowly, critics argued, and the only way to institute wide-ranged change would be through government intervention and regulation. With the new data, it seems that the libertarian way should be given every chance to work and that we aren't in any immediate peril; despite what Al Gore and his green money making machine might argue.Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon![amazon_image id="B001JJBOQA" link="true" target="_blank" size="medium" ]The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism)[/amazon_image]    [amazon_image id="1935071831" link="true" target="_blank" size="medium" ]Climategate: A Veteran Meteorologist Exposes the Global Warming Scam[/amazon_image]    [amazon_image id="0615569048" link="true" target="_blank" size="medium" ]Don't Sell Your Coat: Surprising Truths About Climate Change[/amazon_image]    [amazon_image id="1594033455" link="true" target="_blank" size="medium" ]Climate Confusion: How Global Warming Hysteria Leads to Bad Science, Pandering Politicians and Misguided Policies That Hurt the Poor[/amazon_image]
